Kevin Cordi, the award-winning storyteller, teach and author, will go above and beyond as our Keynote Speaker. He will start with the traditional keynote format and then demonstrates through this general assembly workshop. Storytelling Champions from among us will be used to work in break out groups and then we will all come back together for a panel discussion facilitated by Kevin Cordi. LANES will host nationally known Professional storyteller and coach, Kevin Cordi, Ph.D. as a keynote speaker at STF 2012. As the “first full time high school storytelling teacher in the country,” and founder of YES (Youth, Educators, and Storytellers), Kevin is more than ready to share new ways to build storytelling and story connections. His doctoral work, his expertise, and his ability to direct and lead story development will be most welcomed to storytellers and writers.

For over twenty five years, Kevin has told stories in over forty states, England, Scotland, Singapore, and Japan. His story work has been commissioned by the National Youth Storytelling Hall of Fame, Newsweek, and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As a story teacher he is considered one of the “nation’s primary advocates for youth storytelling!"

Kevin’s Permission 2 Play was recently showcased at The 2010 National Storytelling Conference in Los Angeles as a new way to coach storytelling. He builds upon techniques developed during his doctoral to structure story and storytelling enhancement using “ensemble storytelling.” He works with “unfinished” using dramatic play techniques to rediscover and revitalize these stories. Kevin has authored an award-winning book called Raising Voices: Youth Storytelling Groups and Troupes, co-authored with Judy Sima. The book, which has earned both the Storytelling World Award and the Anne Izard Storytellers Choice Award, chronicles his successful storytelling troupe of 11 years---Voices of Illusion providing practical and proven advice to help children learn through story.
